British Scones

British scones are irresistible snack for any time of the day. Enjoy these cakes along with your tea or coffee. Serve as is or smear them with delicious toppings. Homemade scones are easier to make than you might think and the end result is so rewarding!

How to Make British Scones


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt 1 egg (for wash)

Directions:

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in cold, cubed butter until the mixture has coarse crumbs.
  4. Add to the cream along with the vanilla and whisk together until smooth.
  5. Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 1-2 times until it comes together.
  6. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and pat into 1-inch-thick circle; cut with biscuit cutter or knife for wedges.
  7. On a baking sheet that lined with parchment paper, lay the scones.
  8. You can optionally brush their tops with beaten egg to make them nice and golden.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned
  10. Remove from the oven and cool a little before serving.
